Titan Quest is the game that paved the way for many Diablo-like action role-playing games. I spent a lot of time playing through them with different builds and weapons. The campaign itself is a bit short, but not only is it fun to play again, but it also has many side quests and challenges. With Saoirse being kidnapped by the main villain, Edward Kelley, William travels to a foreign land to stop Kelley and return the favor by saving Saoirse. This spirit was William’s guardian who saved him from certain death and gave him the ability to see other spirits. You play as William Adams, a man who grows up in a small Irish village.Īt some point, William met a spirit called Saoirse, born from humans’ prayers. Still, it has its own unique mechanics that keep it from being just a clone. Nioh is a fast-paced and exciting hack n’ slash game with beautiful graphics heavily inspired by Dark Souls in many aspects. The game offers endless variations of gameplay with its deep skill tree system and special abilities that you can equip or trade to better fit your playstyle. Path of Exile is an Action-RPG with lots of crafting, socketed items, gems, gambling, and isometric action. In Path of Exile, players choose from seven playable character classes and explore randomized dungeons to find items, fight monsters, and complete quests. Still, it was one of the best games that felt like the classic dark fantasy of Diablo but provided a lot of value with its original twists and free-to-play model. However, it was not the first Diablo-like videogame to come up after Blizzard’s game became so popular. Path of Exile is an online Action RPG set in a dark fantasy world that was known as “The New Diablo II” for a long time. Still, Darksiders 2 is an amazing game nonetheless.ĭeath is cool, sarcastic, and comes with many new mechanics, so if you like RPG elements in your adventure games, especially if you also enjoyed the first game of the franchise, make sure to try Darksiders 2. I do prefer the first game when it comes to characters since War is by far my favorite Horseman. You can raise the dead, turn into a giant grim reaper, teleport, and do many other new stunts with your abilities. Combat feels slightly different with the addition of new weapons and Death’s skills. The sequel to Darksiders has a few more mechanics than the original, but it is overall the same. In Darksiders II, you’ll become Death and go on an epic adventure to save humanity from the end of time. This is definitely the loot game to get if you want to play as a badass, walking skeleton.
Recent Borderlands are undoubtedly better than the previous ones, but they are all quite fun. As the franchise progresses, the loot becomes even more numerous and diverse, making players love shooting things all over again to see what other cool weapon they can find.

However, the world, aesthetics, and classes are clearly nothing like most games that tried to be like Blizzard’s title. In fact, even the looting and overall game structure feel that way too. It differs from similar games due to its old-school RPG mechanics and JRPG aesthetics that strongly make the game feel different from most western games.Ĭombat is much like a modern take on Diablo II’s formula.
